Creating the German rolled steel structure

Post by Kent W »

Hi all!

Ok, someone has to be first to post on this section of our forum so why not me... :D
Please all you others don´t be shy and post here as well as we Swedes would love to see what you have.

As some of you mail me and ask how I do this ”Kent treatment” Freddie baptised my way of recreate the rolled armour steel surface
I might as well post it here also.
A longer posting about it can be found at the Panther part of the Armortek forum.

Here is a step by step instruction that I hope might inspire some to do it to their tanks as I have and will to everyone of my 1:6th ones.
Photos show a 1:6th metal tank but can be adopted to plastic 1:16 as well

This is how I do it nowadays:

Clean the plates with Acetone or stronger… Very important! (only soap on plastic VERY important!)
Dry.
Spray self etching primer.
Dry.
Create random dotmarks with a Dremel equipped with a smaller sharp tool.

Now with the same tool make random scare in all directions.
Crossing them is all for the better.

Change to a bigger but still sharp tool and make deeper scare/dots here and there.

Image

Clean and wash with soap (not with Acetone  ).
Add with a used brush putty (No Thinner!) and cover about 2/3 of the surface.

Image

Grid off at least 50% of the putty (I use 240 waterpaper).
Clean and wash with soap (not with Acetone  ).

Image

Self etching primer.
Dry.
Red oxide primer.
Dry.
Dunkelgelde TS-3 or zimmerit or whatever commopaint of your own choice…

It is not until seen under the top paint the structure occur.

Yes, a lot of steps but the end result makes it well worth the effort.
And it is fun doing it almost like meditation I have found or have I been to long sniffing primer fumes again...

Thanks for watching.
Hope I inspired someone.
